Rumors are suggesting that this is. Although it clearly looks like an early prototype.

So what’s different?

  • Concave/Convex hybrid analog sticks (opposed to the dual shock 3’s convex)
  • Touch panel in the middle (similar to the back of the Vita)
  • Share button to the left of the touch pad? Maybe?
  • Speaker below the touch panel (started to become a Wiimote…)
  • PS Move style light on the top? (maybe this is a Dual Shock/Move?)
  • Round port on the bottom (possibly a head phone jack?)
  • New directional pad (which looks bigger, maybe its just the picture?)
  • Wider stance (the distance between the sticks looks greater)
  • Thicker handles (similar to the Xbox controller?)

Before you start off with your, “what the MadCatz is this POS? I just want a Dual Shock 3 with better triggers.” Remember that this is a prototype. The final controller design may not look anything like this. Also note that this is a wired controller, and its a pretty safe bet that the PS4 will not have wired controllers. Which leaves only one conclusion. That this is clearly an early dev Kit (game developer kit) controller. It’s also worth noting that the big silver box behind it could be a PS4 Dev Kit.

With each day that we get closer to Sony’s mysterious New York press event, it’s beginning to feel like a PlayStation 4 announcement is indeed inbound. If I was a betting man (which I am), I would bet the pot that Sony plans to announce the PS4 next Wednesday. So stay tuned to FFoP for the PlayStation Event details and our impressions of whatever gets announced Feb. 20th.

Hit the jump for a side by side with the Dual Shock 3.
