I Took Care of Sam and Max as well as the Penal Zone with a Single Stroke

April 17th, 2010 -

This is to serve as an update on the previous S&M; (not Sadomasochism) post from a couple weeks ago.

April 15th finally came, and by this point I had gotten pretty excited to play a new Sam and Max adventure. So I logged onto the PSN and saw there was a demo as well as the game; both said they were free. I chose the game, and it downloaded the demo along with a key to unlock the full game. From what I’ve heard, if you hadn’t bought the series, only the demo is available. I guess you aren’t able to buy the episodes individually, so you have to decide from this demo (I believe it’s chapter 3 of the game) if you want to play the rest of the series.

Now if you don’t want to play the demo, or are unsure of what type of game it is, let me put it this way. If you ever played any of the old Point and Click adventure games for PC, enjoyed any of they humor Steve Purcell has brought to the world for decades, or just want something different than pretty much anything you’ve played in a while, get this. I’m aware that these games are actually making a comeback, with the Secret of Monkey Island game coming to the PSN finally, as well as the Blue Toad episodic murder mystery adventure. The Wii (aside from Sam and Max seasons) even had a unique one a couple years ago titled Zack and Wiki. But I know most people never got into this genre…

I believe that this (S&M;) would probably be the best game for you to start out with in this style of game play. It’s not overly complicated or long (assuming you listen to all the dialog, the first episode took me about 4-5 hours to beat), and comes with a very accessible yet higher humor. It’s hard to express how much fun I had with this game. I can’t wait for the next episode. Oh, also… As I was playing the game I got a message from [PSN] titled “Sam and Max”. I was worried there was something wrong with it, but it was just an attachment to download the game. Too bad I was already playing it… purpose: defeated.
