Notable Releases: 10/18 – 10/24

October 25th, 2009 -

Sorry for the lack of updates from me this past week, but it just seems like with Uncharted 2, Fallout 3 GotY, work and a lot of sleep to catch up on, I haven’t had time for the blog. So even with this being posted on 10/25, hit the jump for last weeks Notable Releases.

Software:

-DS/DSi-
Like it’s predecessor, Space Invaders Extreme 2 is a revamped version of the arcade classic. Developed by Taito and distributed by Square-Enix, the game delivers 3 modes to play: Score Attack, Ranking, and Time Attack. Score Attack mode has you attempt to get the highest score you can, while Time Attack mode tries to get you to finish as quick as possible. If you were into the original arcade game, this is definitely worth checking out.
-PlayStation Portable-
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars gets ported to the PSP this week. This slightly revamped version of the game offers the top down style of the originals, while maintaining the art style of the modern games. Developed by Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar North, this sandbox title is worth checking out. If you enjoyed the original DS version of the game, you may be tempted to pick this version as it sports a new widescreen look and some new story missions.
-Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/PC-
Borderlands, developed by Gearbox Software, is a Sci-Fi First Person Shooter. Yet this stands out from your average FPS game, as Borderlands contains RPG elements. It’s like Fallout 3 but reversed; the emphasis being for FPS opposed to RPG. The game allows 4 player online co-op, quests, and player vs. player gameplay. This game is also said to have an unprecedented 500,000 different weapon combinations. If you like shooters and leveling up as well as collecting a crap ton of weapons, pick this game up today!
Downloadables:

-Wii Virtual Console-
RYGAR is an action/adventure platformer from Tecmo. Being released on the Virtual Console this week, this game offers a more open ended experience than the arcade original. You control Rygar, set with the task of taking down the evil King Ligar. Progressing through the game gives you access to various tools and weapons such as a grappling hook, a wind pulley, and a cross bow to solve the game’s puzzles. Pick this up if you want to enjoy a classic or relive some memories.

-Xbox LIVE Arcade-
Tower Bloxx Deluxe comes to us this week from developer Digital Chocolate. In the game you compete to build the tallest tower. The game features 6 different single player modes, 3 multiplayer modes (competitive and co-op), and the “Social Ladder” system which is Tower Bloxx’ take on leader boards. Check this out if you dig the strategy/puzzle genre.

-PlayStation Network-
Last, but certainly not least is Trine. Dropping this week on the PSN, Trine is an action/adventure/puzzle/platformer from developer Frozenbyte. In the game you play as one of three different character types (kinght, wizard, and thief) and work your way through the different levels of the game. The game also support drop in/drop out co-op play, in which players can come and go as they please to help out. Check this title out on the PSN today and on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace soon.
