Fallout 3 Game Of The Year Edition Is Broken… Well, on the PS3…

October 25th, 2009 -

So it seems that bugs follow where ever Fallout 3 goes. With the release of the Game of the Year Edition two weeks ago on all major platforms, it seems that only one of these platforms is having major issues. Which platform you ask? Why, the PlayStation 3 of course. Hit the jump for full details.

That’s right it seems the PS3 version of Fallout 3 GotY is getting the worst of the problems, with saves not loading to massive lag and even full game crashes. I’ve been experiencing most of the issues myself while trudging through the game’s additional content. When I first loaded into Operation: Anchorage, I encountered a large amount of lag to the point where I had to reboot my PS3 several times over. I also encountered issues with The Pitt in which I ran into a glitch that disables me from talking to Ashur, the leader of the Raiders. Encountering this glitch basically spelled doom for me being able to finish this DLC normally. Now, Fallout 3 has never been a bug free game; with the all systems it has encountered various bugs/glitches. So this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

When most of the DLC was first released on the Xbox 360 and PC, they suffered from most of the usual slowdown, crashes, and some issues even rendered them unplayable. It seems these things always get off to a rocky start. Bethesda has long since fixed these bugs on other platforms and stated that the delay of content on the PS3 was for quality assurance. Yet these issues still plague the game. Why out of all three platforms did the PS3 get the worst of the problems? Wasn’t patch 1.6 supposed to be the same fixes that helped the Xbox 360 and PC? Yet the only problems they’re experiencing are install issues. Could having all this content on one disc be the cause of these issues? Perhaps it is too much data for the PS3 to handle at once.

Bethesda has yet to comment on the major bugs, so far only stating they’re working on the Canadian save issues. I, along with many others are hoping for a comment and continue to reach out to Bethesda for support. With the efforts so far only amounting to pissed off forum banter and lack luster tech support, I am personally losing faith that I’ll be able to play the DLC at all. Here’s hoping for a fix sometime soon, but I won’t get my hopes too high. I’ll leave this post with a warning to all those potential PS3 Fallout 3 GotY buyers. Buyer beware: this game is bugged!
