Games with Gold June 1st, 2017

June 1st, 2017 -

It’s June 1st, which means a new batch of Games with Gold games are available to Xbox Live Gold members. Are they worth your precious time and hard drive space at the everyday amazing price of FREE? Let’s take a look.

Our first offering is Assassins Creed III for the Xbox 360 or Xbox One via backwards compatibility, which was originally released in 2012 by Ubisoft. In this entry you’ll follow Conner Ratonhnhak√©:ton (that’s a fucking nightmare) through 18th century Boston. If you’ve played any of the Assassins Creed entries, you know what you’re getting into and if you are new to the series, you may find the current day setting to be a little confusing as the series does have an extremely convoluted present day story in addition to the past story. While some of the games in this series incorporate the¬†multiple¬†storylines better than others, this entry is best considered a singular story while ignoring the present day content. The game is full of stealth third person combat, hunting wildlife for upgrades, and stalking targets through crowded streets.

Is it worth downloading? Yes. While not as strong as the recent Assassins Creed Syndicate, it is a worthwhile addition to any gamer’s collection.

The second free game is Speedrunners which was released today by tinyBuild games for the Xbox One. This was originally released as a browser game and ported to the Xbox 360 as Speedrunners HD. It is a very accessible game in the vein of Super Meat Boy meets Super Mario Bros. While not as difficult as some of the similar games, it does offer some fun to be had, especially for gamers who are looking for something to play with the family.

Is it worth downloading? Yes, while not as noteworthy as Assassins Creed III, it’s free. At launch no less!

Be sure to check back on June 16th when the next batch of free games arrive. For more on the Games with Gold program, please visit the program’s site here.
