Nintendo apparently had so much going on at E3 this year, it needed four press events just to cover it all. Four! That’s a lot. Well I guess when you have a new “next gen” system coming out, your handheld’s game info can miss the big show.
We originally were going to live blog and do a podcast about this conference just like the other big conference, but the closer we got to the event and with it only being an hour long, we ultimately decided that we would just do a post recap about it. A post which you’re reading right now. So, the 3DS, where do we begin. Well, I’ll begin by saying that this like most of the press conferences this year, was in no shortage of the awkward. While Reggie Fils-Aime is usually a top notch speaker at these things, even he trip over his own words while handing the stage to Scott Moffitt. Let’s just move onto the games though.
First up in the event we had Castlevania: Lords of Shadow -Mirror of Fate. This is a brand new title in the Lords of Shadow storyline for Castlevania and features 4 playable characters, lots of weapons, and tons of enemies to slice your way through.
The next game they showed in the event was Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. This is a sequel to the original GameCube classic and features more mansions, ghosts, monsters, and Luigi. This event debuted a new feature with Luigi’s flashlight. A multicolored beam now reveals secrets around your environments. Look forward to this title coming in the fall.
Epic Mickey was shown next and I must say this game looks like a blast from the past. Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a 3DS follow up to the Wii original released only a couple of years ago. This game has a really awesome retro look to it and promises a lot of surprises in store for those who know their Disney game history. Looks for this game along side Epic Mickey 2 on November 18th.
Next up is a game that I’ve been looking forward to for awhile, Paper Mario: Sticker Star. A new entry in the RPG Mario series, this game features stickers. Lots and lots of stickers. They can be used for combat and changing the environment around you. The game looks really fun. Watch the video below for a taste of what’s to come.
After that we got a shortened E3 trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D. The latest entry in the series features a new companion system which features Dream Eaters. The game also features the ability to play as both Sora and Riku. The game will be out on July 31st.
We then got a trailer for Scibblenauts Unlimited. The game now features multiplayer and the ability to build objects. We’re also getting to know the main character of Maxwell by experiencing his origins. The game will be available this fall.
eShop info was shown next, including the best selling items, new Nintendo Video series, demos. Also talked about was the Pokédex 3D pro, which is a new version of the Pokédex 3D app that expands it to all known Pokémon. Pokémon Dream Radar was also talked about. This app allows you to catch Pokémon and transfer them to your Black 2 or White 2 games.
Last, but certainly not least, New Super Mario Bros. 2 was shown. This game is all about the gold, both representing the coins you’ll be collecting and the amount Nintendo will be making off us. Full co-op was also confirmed for the game, which is a very nice touch. The game arrives on August 19th.
Well, that was it for Nintendo’s 3DS conference. Lots of new info for games we mostly knew were coming. Despite that though I am now a very excited future owner of a 3DS. I have a lot of great things to look forward to.
