I Choose You Pokémon Grey!

February 22nd, 2011 -

Alright guys, calm down, it’s not real… just a really awesome box made by someone called t7fu8. However, this is the subject of my post this week. Pokémon Grey (or as Jason likes to say, Pokémon Mulatto) is the rumored third entry into the fifth generation of the wildly popular series. Rumored until of the game’s designers shot it down of course. So earlier last week Spanish site Meristation interviewed Mana Ibe, a designer of the games, and asked about the possibility of a third version of Pokémon Black and White. To this she reportedly answered “No. Not at all. We’ve finished this installment with the Black and White Versions”. This quote immediately sent shock through Pokémon fans, as the series is known for a third version that accompanies the dual release. Wild and rampant speculation began, as fans grew worried, and some even relieved. The ones against this statement had years of “tradition,” and the hope of a mistranslation (from Japanese to Spanish to English) on their side. The ones for the statement simply stated that this move would only further Nintendo’s stance that these two games are to break the mold of the series, being “new” experiences and all.

Me? I can see it both ways. I do agree with a lot of fans out there that believe a third version isn’t necessary. Going with the whole “these are new games” argument, I can see it. Black and White represent a new leap forward for the series. Why add another version of the game to bog it down into the “norm” for Pokémon?

There is, however, a lot more evidence to support the existence of the third version. For one, and as stated above, the games have always had a third version to follow the first two. It serves as a director’s cut to the games. Second, Nintendo likes your monies, and if they can get it by re-wrapping the same game and selling it to you again, they will. Third, the game’s director himself has stated that he never denied the possibility of a third version and was surprised by the current rumor plaguing fans.

Take from this what you want, but I can pretty much guarantee that Pokémon Grey will arrive next year, just like all previous generations before it. The only question that stands is will Grey be the last Pokémon game to grace the DS or the first to grace the 3DS?

Oh, and before I go, I have a slight update from my previous back catalog post. While I didn’t beat any of the games on the list, I did find more to add. They are as follows:

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid: Other M
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

So that brings the count to 47… ugh. Let it be written: 0/47
