Bringing Stop-Motion to Life with Armikrog

March 6th, 2015 -

Pencil Test Studios is special to me because of their history. If you don’t know them by name, perhaps you will when you hear some of the games the co-founders worked on: Disney’s Alladin, Earthworm Jim, and The Neverhood. If you haven’t played any of those, then you have my condolences. In any case, their newest title Armikrog utilizes a style that most games don’t even consider an option these days (though there are still a couple). Stop-motion animation in general is very much a dying form of animation, and it’s sad to see as the works of companies such as Laika and Aardman are absolutely wonderful – there’s a realness in puppetry and hand crafted worlds that no other format can create. Enjoy the above clip as Mike and Ed give insight to how such a beautiful world and game is created.
