Acting Out Aggressively

December 6th, 2014 -

If you’re a fan of RTS games, you’ve no doubt heard of Eugen Systems. If you don’t recognize them by name, perhaps you’ll recognize their games: Act of War, RUSE, and the Wargame franchise. In addition to two other unannounced RTS titles, Act of Aggression has burst out of the gates and is looking at a Spring 2015 release. If you miss the style of ’90s RTS, this looks to be picking up where they left off.

So, what can you expect from AoA? Three factions based on real and fictional military forces; resource harvesting; building bases; production of combat units. So, what are the factions? There is the Cartel, a stealth based organization born out of PMCs using prototype gear, which is hard to master due to their fragility (though they look radical). The US Army, a group of veterans due to their experience fighting across the world, they utilize current generation gear. And finally, the Chimera, an UNO funded task-force that is more or less a jack of all trades, though you can specialize units through upgrades.

The game is focused on macro-management opposed to micro – you’ll be securing supply chains, taking prisoners of war, taking over on-map banks for supplemental income, and fighting your way through large authentic maps. I miss the days of old Command and Conquer, and this looks reminiscent (while still being new, of course). If you’re a fan of the RTS genre, make sure to keep your eyes open for this.
